I was recently asked to go to someone’s home to give massage for a loved one who was in the last stage of life. What a blessing. I am very thankful I could be of service.
When one is in bed all of the time, too feeble to get up and is in pain just trying to turn on their side; massage can be of real benefit. It reduces the pain in the muscle and joints and helps the person relax and improves sleep. It will help ease leg cramps and depression. Massage will also improve mental clarity and energy.
It is very difficult to watch a loved one in pain and to feel helpless. Consider massage as an alternative to pain.

Massage is often something folks just dream about. When something is new we often wonder what it would be like. Trying it is something else. I think fear of the unknown is an interesting concept. Usually our thoughts are much more extreme than the reality. So many of our problems are the result of an overactive imagination.

There are two main types of low back pain. One is due to muscles being overstretched or torn and the other is from disk problems. If your diagnosis is disk problems, massage will not help very much. See your doctor for disk problems.
If the trouble is muscle or soft tissue damage massage will help. You can also try some of these tips.
Stop wearing high heels! High heels throw your balance off and your belly protrudes, shoulders are back and typically the head will be in a forward position. This causes the low back muscles to become tight and leads to an over use problem.
When sleeping, keep a pillow at the foot of the bed. Put the pillow under the knees when on your back, between the knees when on your side or under your ankles when on your stomach. This takes the pressure off the low back.
When standing at the kitchen counter doing a task, open the cabinet door in front of your foot and place the foot on the bottom shelf to take the pressure off the low back.

I have a client I saw out of the office. I said “How are you?” Client replied “I am hurting all over.” I asked “Why have you not called me?” Client replied “Next month I am having surgery on my knee and I am limping badly and my body is all out of alignment. I thought I would just wait until it is all over and get a massage then.”
I said ” So by that logic, you don’t wash the dishes after eating on them because you will just get them dirty the next day.” Client said ” Security security, I am getting my butt whipped here.”
I love my clients and have lots of fun with them but this client is particularly fun.
The time to receive massage is when ever you hurt, are tired but can’t sleep or are so stressed out you don’t know what to do next. I can’t stress this enough.
Please make your New Year resolution to take better care of your self. Get more exercise (except you Nancy), eat less sugar and junk and more veggies, and schedule a massage at least once a month. You are worth it and deserve to be taken care of.

I had a new client this week who had been in a car accident two months earlier and was experiencing so much pain they couldn’t sleep more than two hours a night. After the first massage they slept five hours and after the second one slept seven hours. This client is not done with treatment as sleep is still erratic and they still experience pain, although the sleep is consistently better and the pain much less.
Car accidents are very traumatic to the body, more so if the car sustains a small amount of damage because the people take more of the impact than the car. After a car accident whiplash and headaches are very common. The neck muscles tighten up which can cause headaches and since muscles are connected to each other the next one tightens and so on. Often you can’t tell what is hurting because everything hurts. So one decides to wait to see if the pain will go away. By the time one realizes it won’t go away on it’s own, more and more muscles are tight and causing pain.
Don’t wait, get help as soon after a traumatic event as you can.
